To be eligible to compete in the New York City Memorial Stair Climb participants must be currently employed or volunteer in the active role of a firefighter. Retired firefighters may also compete as long as they can supply approved FFG for themselves.
Firefighters may be employed in any Fire Service, Airport Rescue Fire Brigades, Industrial Brigades, and Rural Fire.
Competitors from overseas must be currently employed or volunteer in a recognized Fire Service in the active role of firefighter, and on request be able to supply proof e.g. Fire Service Identification.
Firefighters will be competing in approved structural Firefighting Full turnout Gear (FFG).
Law enforcement categories are open to all law enforcement officers (currently employed or retired).
Firearms are not permitted inside 3WTC.
Law Enforcement climbers may climb in regular workout attire and any gear they choose as long as no firearms or weapons of any kind are with or part of that gear. This is a building policy that is beyond the control of the The New York City Memorial Stair Climbs organizers.
