Can anyone participate in the Climb?
Only firefighters, law enforcement officers & EMT's can participate in The New York City Memorial Stair Climb.
There are other memorial stair climbs in NYC that are open to civilians
Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers must be fully fit to compete; proof of Medical fitness to compete may be required by the organizers.
Minimum age for entry is 18 years on the day of the event.
FIREFIGHTERS:
To be eligible to compete in the New York City Memorial Stair Climb participants must be currently employed or volunteer in the active role of a firefighter. Retired firefighters may also compete as long as they can supply approved FFG for themselves.
Firefighters may be employed in any Fire Service, Airport Rescue Fire Brigades, Industrial Brigades, and Rural Fire.
Competitors from overseas must be currently employed or volunteer in a recognized Fire Service in the active role of firefighter, and on request be able to supply proof e.g. Fire Service Identification.
Firefighters will be competing in approved structural Firefighting Full turnout Gear (FFG).
LAW ENFORCEMENT:
Law enforcement categories are open to all law enforcement officers (currently employed or retired).
Firearms are not permitted inside 3WTC.
Law Enforcement climbers may climb in regular workout attire and any gear they choose as long as no firearms or weapons of any kind are with or part of that gear. This is a building policy that is beyond the control of the The New York City Memorial Stair Climbs organizers.

Is there a capacity on Climbers?
Yes, there are only 343 spots for firefighters and 60 spots for LEOs.
How much does it cost to climb?
$90 entry fee
Can I get a refund if I can not attend?
Unfortunately for multiple reasons we do not issue refunds.
Can I transfer my spot to someone else?
Unfortunately we do not allow ticket transfers.
If I won a free entry can I postpone it or transfer it?
We do not allow postponements or transfers of free entries.
Is the Climb timed?
Each Climber will be given a "race bib" with a timing chip attached. The New York City Memorial Stair Climb is a memorial for our fallen 9/11 responders. It is not a race.
Will SCBA's (BA's/Air Packs) be provided?
Yes, we will provide an SCBA for you to climb with. You do not need to bring one but you are allowed to at this time
Will firefighter climbers be On Air?
There is no "On Air" category. Donned only – wearing SCBA only – mask removed from SCBA - is the only option. SCBAs will be available on site.
How can I climb for a specific firefighter or law enforcement officer killed on 9/11?
Each Climber will be randomly assigned a member of the 343 FDNY, 37 PAPD, or 23 NYPD. On your registration form you may request an additional member you would like to specifically climb for.
Is fundraising required?
Fundraising is not required but strongly encouraged. Please see our fundraising awards
How do I fundraise?
Each Climber should have set up a customized fundraising page during registration. If you did not you can do so HERE
You can create a team and raise funds as a group or join as an individual and raise funds on your own.

When are the top fundraising winners determined?
Winners are determined at 1500 EST on event day.
Can I record my Climb?
GoPros and Recording/Photo devices of any kind are NOT allowed in the stairwell of 3WTC.
What time does the Climb start?
Heat 1 Check-In at 0800
Heat 2 Check-In at 0900
Heat 3 Check-In at 1000
Each Climber will be assigned to 1 of 3 heats. Each Heat will have a staggered start time and include approximately 150 Climbers. Heat information will be provided to each Climber via email prior to event day.
Where do I go on the day of the climb?
Check-In is at Clinton Hall (90 Washington Street). A government issued Photo ID and Department ID is required to enter the building. All bags will be subject to search by security - please limit the amount of personal items you bring.
Can my family and/or friends come?
Due to security restrictions only registered Climbers may enter the building. An area nearby will be designated for family and friends. A live stream of the climb will be available at the designated area as well as online.
